Music Of Treme News Roundup – May 14, 2010

You have no excuse this weekend to either listen or watch great music online.

This Sunday, May 16th, there is a benefit concert here in New Orleans for Gulf Aid, a nonprofit that has been established in response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Money raised will help the wetlands and coastal areas as well as those affected in the seafood industry.

WWOZ (yes, the station that has the chicken blood on the wall) is helping with the concert and on short notice they have put together a great lineup including Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Allen Toussaint and several local bands including Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and many others.

WWOZ will be broadcasting some of the performances live so if you can’t make it, enjoy the music and make a donation to the cause.

Also a little further east, The Hangout Beach Festival in Gulf Shores, AL is also donating their profits to coastal protection and restoration cause.  iClips.net is streaming live video of several of the performances over the weekend, including Funky Meters, Ozomatli, Gov’t Mule, Ben Harper and Trey Anatasio.

Have a great weekend and I sign off with Davell Crawford singing “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”
